BINTULU: A total of 60 primary pupils from the Tatau and Sebauh areas participated in a two-day programme aimed at increasing their environmental awareness.
The schools involved in the Sarawak Level Environmental Awareness Camp (KeKAS) 2024 Knowledge Empowerment Programme on Aug 22-23 were SK Pandan, SK Rumah Barrau, SK Bagian, SK Sangan Iban, and SK Tatau.
At the closing of the programme Sarawak Environment Department director John Rampai said it was the ninth year that Petronas has collaborated with the department on the programme in the state.
Since 2012, this collaboration has benefited 435 students from primary, secondary and tertiary schools throughout Sarawak.
For the first time the environmental awareness programme integrated to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) modules in environmental care.
This two-day programme also involved camping activities in the school grounds.
All the activities performed were evaluated by a panel of judges and the best groups and presenters were awarded prizes during the closing ceremony.
At the same event, Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd also donated additional reading material in the form of encyclopedia books.
The donation aims to enrich the library collection in schools involved in the programme.
