KUCHING (Sept 9): A convention focusing on the history of Malaysia will be held in Kuala Lumpur on Sept 19, said National Unity Minister Datuk Seri Aaron Ago Dagang.
He highlighted that the convention will utilise historical records from the National Archives of Malaysia to present a comprehensive view of the nation’s history.
“There are certain aspects of Malaysia’s history that needs to be highlighted in the school syllabus, so as to foster a deeper understanding of the nation’s history among the youth.
“Therefore, we plan to host the Malaysian History Convention as means of promoting that agenda.
“We will be inviting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to officiate at the event,” he said when met by reporters at the ‘Mengenang Negarawan Tun Datuk Patinggi Temenggong Jugah Barieng’ programme held at the premises of the Dayak Cultural Foundation on Jalan Ong Tiang Swee here today.
Additionally, he emphasised the importance of historians and researchers in taking full advantage of the national archives.
“Those who wish to conduct research on the nation’s history can access the archives, as they possess all the relevant materials,” he said.
On the event, Aaron said it was a signature programme organised by the National Archives of Malaysia to honour Tun Jugah in connection with National Day and Malaysia Day.
A similar programme was also held several weeks ago to honour Tunku Abdul Rahman in Kuala Lumpur, which was officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
