KUCHING (Aug 27): Dato Sri Abdul Ghafur Shariff has been officially sworn in as Sarawak Chief Ombudsman today.

The oath-taking ceremony took place this morning at the Kuching High Court before High Court Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Dato Dr Alwi Abd Wahab.

The ceremony was witnessed by Sarawak Integrity and Ombudsman Unit director Wan Mohamad Wan Drahman, who also serves as the Chief Administrator of the Sarawak Ombudsman.

“Sarawak has made history as the first state in Malaysia to implement laws related to the Ombudsman system. This milestone was achieved when the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly passed the Sarawak Ombudsman Ordinance, 2023, on Nov 20, last year.

“This event underscores the Sarawak government’s strong commitment to enhancing public service delivery, ensuring good governance, and ultimately boosting public confidence and trust in the government’s administrative machinery,” said a statement today.

The oath-taking ceremony was held in accordance with the provisions under Section 7 of the Sarawak Ombudsman Ordinance, 2023.
