KUCHING (Aug 3): The achievements of 26 women personalities documented in the new ‘Sarawak Women in Innovation and Technology’ book are a source of inspiration for the younger generation, said Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah.

The Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister said the book is the latest publication by her ministry’s Women and Family Department, which have published a series of books on Sarawak women since 2010 by documenting the different vocations they undertook.

According to her again, the title and theme of this latest book is also in line with the theme of the Sarawak-level Women’s Day to be celebrated in Sibu this August 10.

“When I was given the responsibility to lead this ministry, one of the things that I wanted to do was to make sure that every year during Women’s Day, we can publish a book. To me, this is very important because there are so many amazing ladies (in Sarawak).

“If we don’t do research, if we don’t document the amazing contributions by these ladies here, people will forget what they have achieved,” she said in her speech at the official launch of the book today.

Also present were her Deputy Minister Datuk Rosey Yunus and the ministry’s permanent secretary Datu Felicia Tan.

Prior to the book launch, a sharing session was held featuring personalities featured in the book.

Fatimah said that women in Sarawak have also contributed in the field of computer science, biotechnology, as well as solving problems through innovation and technology.

“Their contributions not only increase productivity and technical advancement, but also encourage positive changes in society, break gender barriers, and become role models,” she said.

For the record, the first book published by the ministry through the Women and Family Department was Sarawak Women Treading The Path Of Post-Independence Years in 2010.

This was followed by Sarawak Women In Politics in 2012, Sarawak Women In Volunteerism (2014), Sarawak Women In The Arts (2015), The Pioneers Sarawak Women In Politics (2016), Sarawak Women In Sports (2017), Sarawak Women and Wellness (2018), Sarawak Women In Safety and Security (2019), Sarawak Women In Scholarly Writing Vol.1 (2021) and Sarawak Women In Scholarly Writing Vol.2 (2023).

All the 10 books had featured 282 personalities.
