SIBU (Oct 8): The upgrading project of Jalan Oya into a dual carriageway is expected to be completed by this December, said Datuk Aidel Lariwoo.
The Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development said the project’s first phase, spanning 1.44km, is 1.58 per cent ahead of schedule.
“This is one of the busiest roads in Sibu. The construction is on-going and ahead of schedule by 1.58 per cent, with a target of phase one completion by this December,” he told reporters when met after inspecting the project site here yesterday.
Aidel pointed out that Phase 2, spanning 1km, is currently in the design stage.
“Hopefully, when the project is completed, it will ease the traffic congestion in the area,” he added.
Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng, who joined the site visit, hoped that the dual carriageway project would be completed as soon as possible, so as to ease the commute of the Sibu community.
He added that Sibu Municipal Council began the installation works of traffic lights yesterday.
In this regard, Chieng hoped the contractor would deploy a traffic controller, following the many public complaints received by the council.
