KUCHING, 4 Oct: The 18th Sri Santubong Open Breed Petanque Tournament and the Kuching Division Petanque Sports Association Cup (PSPBK), Land Development and Protection Board (LCDA), Sarawak Land and Survey Department Social Clubs (LANDAS) 2026 as well as the International Exhibition closed yesterday after two days.

The tournament took place on October 3 and 4 at the Petanque Arena of Nurir Rahmani Mosque and Santubong High School, Kuching.

The joint venture of LCDA, PSPBK and LANDAS brought together petanque players from home and abroad to seize the championship as well as prizes offered.

The 18th edition of the event is part of an ongoing effort to develop petanque sports, as well as providing a platform for gathering and highlighting new talent in the sport.

For this year, the LCDA also co-organized the 45th Anniversary of the LCDA with the theme '45 Years of LCDA With Community', thus demonstrating the agency's commitment to supporting social activities and sports development.

This year's tournament saw the participation of 118 teams in the open and 61 teams in the women's.

In addition to the participation of players from various states in Malaysia, the tournament also received international participation from Indonesia, Thailand, Brunei and other countries.

Participants included players from various government agencies and institutions of higher learning including the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), Malaysian Prison Department, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and Kuching North Town Hall (DBKU), as well as clubs and petanque associations.

A fierce competition throughout the tournament saw AM 01 emerge as the champion of the open relay category, followed by LCDA 02 as runners-up, while LKEPS and LCDA 03 shared third place.

For the women's singles category, LCDA 04 emerged as champion, while Bintangor 01 was runner-up.

The third place was shared by Bintangor 02 and LCDA 01.

Open champions receive a cash prize of RM6,000, round-robin trophies and accompanying trophies, while runners-up receive RM3,000 as well as an accompanying trophy.

The two third-placed teams each received RM1,500 and an accompanying trophy.

For the women's singles category, the champion takes home RM2,500 and an accompanying trophy, while the runner-up receives RM1,500 and an accompanying trophy.

The two third-placed teams each received RM800 and an accompanying trophy, in addition to the prize for the fifth to 16th placed team in the competition category.
