KUCHING, Feb 1: Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) has announced that Amelia Roziman has stepped down as its chief executive officer (CEO) effective Jan 31, 2026, concluding a 20-year tenure marked by growth and innovation in Sarawak’s business events sector.

In a recent statement, BESarawak said Roziman played a key role in positioning Sarawak as a leading destination for legacy-driven business events, with the sector recognised as a growth area under Sarawak’s Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

Under her leadership, Sarawak strengthened a whole-of-ecosystem approach that helped position the State as Malaysia and Borneo’s legacy capital for business events.

Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, said Roziman’s leadership had created a sector-wide mindset that values innovation, responsibility and a long-term positive impact.

“The Ministry will continue to support her future endeavours,” he said.

Meanwhile, BESarawak chairman Datu Hii Chang Kee said Roziman’s leadership had strengthened Sarawak’s global standing and positioned the organisation for its next phase of development.

“Her exceptional leadership has positioned BESarawak strongly for its next chapter,” he said.

In her statement, Roziman said it had been an honour to work with impact-driven leaders in the business events industry and to witness the sector’s growth over the years.

“I will continue to contribute in a different capacity, and I sincerely thank everyone for the trust and support given thus far,” she said.

BESarawak also highlighted Roziman’s international recognition, including being the first woman in Asia inducted into the Events Industry Council Hall of Leaders in 2023, the first Asian and fifth global recipient of The Iceberg Excellence Award in 2025, and her role on The Iceberg Board of Trustees.

During her tenure, Sarawak secured 31 destination marketing and innovation awards and achieved a 100 per cent bid win rate since 2022, according to the statement. BESarawak said further announcements on the leadership transition will be made in due course. — DayakDaily
