KUCHING (March 16): Global fitness franchise Anytime Fitness is set to make its maiden foray into Borneo with two outlets in Kuching, marking another step in the brand’s nationwide growth strategy.

The new outlets, to be located at Tower 33 and the Podium, are expected to provide members with convenient access to its modern 24-hour fitness facilities.

Anytime Fitness director of operations, Hazli Bojili, said the upcoming branches reflect the company’s continued push to expand beyond Peninsular Malaysia into Sabah and Sarawak as demand for accessible fitness options grows.

“Anytime Fitness is a 24-hour fitness chain with over 5,000 outlets worldwide. We are here to see how we can best serve the community here in Kuching.

“We will be opening two locations in Kuching—Tower 33 and The Podium—by July this year. They will open simultaneously, about one week apart,” he told an engagement session with potential clients in Kuching over the weekend.

“While we are starting with these two, we plan to have many more across East Malaysia.”

Hazli noted that currently, the fitness participation rate in Malaysia stands at one per cent.

This means that out of 100 people, only one is active by way of activity such as hiking or sports.

“Because of this, we feel that the more players enter the market with the right intentions, the better it is for people to choose a gym they can call ‘home’,” he enthused.

“At the end of the day, everyone has a story with fitness—whether it’s starting a health journey, joining friends for a class, or hitting the gym for the first time.

“Our goal for Anytime Fitness in East Malaysia is to be a support system.”

Once operational, Hazli noted that members will be able to access other Anytime Fitness clubs across Malaysia and internationally under the brand’s global membership.

Founded in the United States, Anytime Fitness is widely recognised as one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing gym franchises, with thousands of clubs operating globally.

Members benefit from 24-hour access, allowing them to work out at any time using secure key-fob entry systems, modern equipment and personal training services.

In Malaysia, the brand has experienced rapid expansion in recent years, surpassing the milestone of 100 clubs nationwide in January 2026.

This reinforces its position as a major player in the country’s fitness industry and reflecting increasing public awareness of the importance of health and wellness.

The Kuching outlets are set to add to the brand’s broader ambition of expanding its footprint across Malaysia and encouraging more Malaysians to adopt active, healthier lifestyles through accessible, community-based fitness facilities.
