KUCHING (Oct 27): The establishment of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth Wing serves an important foundation for training and empowering future leaders, said Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar.
The PBB permanent chairman said this is a strategic step for the party to guide young people at an early stage so that they can contribute to the development of PBB, Sarawak and the country.
As such, he pointed out that efforts to strengthen and empower the youth in Sarawak should be given primary attention.
“There is a saying that the youth are the leaders of tomorrow. But the question now is what are the qualities they possess when they become leaders in the future?
“That is why we need to train them as per the Malay proverb goes ‘melentur buluh biarlah dari rebungnya’ (start inculcating good values early),” he said when officiating the 2024-2027 session of the PBB Pantai Damai branch representative meeting here today.
Also present was Utility and Telecommunication Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, who is PBB vice president and Pantai Damai assemblyman.
Asfia, who is State Legislative Assembly Speaker, said the future of the country can be seen through the development of the youth.
“The future of the country depends on the youth. Therefore, it is important that we keep them away from social ills.
“We must guide them so as to ignite their potential so as to prepare them for tomorrow’s world,” he said.
He added that there is no cause for concern regarding youth involvement in voting.
“We will shape the younger generations to assist us so there is nothing to worry about youth voter participation. They are our children and grandchildren, so it is up to us to guide and educate them,” he said.
