SIBU (Oct 28): The audition for the ‘Arena of Dreams 2024’, which took place at the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) library yesterday, listed 33 applicants coming from all over Sarawak.
According to Councillor Michelle Law, from this number, 12 would be selected as finalists for this competition.
“The grand finale will take place on the main stage at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase I this Dec 17. We invite all to come to the show in full force and support the performers n,” she said at the press conference yesterday, where fellow councillors Simon Wee and Yii Souk Ming were also present.
Law, also the event’s organising chairperson, said it was the first time that SMC undertook the task of staging the ‘Arena of Dreams’.
“The main objective is to scout for potential and talented individuals, by providing a platform for them to showcase their creative and wonderful skills.
“This time, the youngest contestant is a five-year-old boy, while the oldest is a man in his 50s,” she added.
On the format, Law said each performance would run from two to eight minutes.
The performing line-up includes singers, dancers, magicians, martial artists and musical shows. The assessments are based on the special talents meant for artistic entertainment, either as an individual, or as a team.
The judging criteria will be based on creativity, artistic skills, presentation, choreography and uniqueness.
The grand winner will bring home RM3000, first runner-up (RM2,000), and second runner-up (RM1,000). There are also two consolation prizes of RM200 each.
Law added that the Top 5 finalists would perform on the main stage of SMC’s New Year Countdown event on Dec 31.
