SIBU (Oct 28): Some 800 participants joined the ‘Baitulmal with Community’ cycling programme held at the Islamic Complex here yesterday.
According to Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) general manager Datu Abang Mohd Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie, the programme aimed to boost community engagement.
“The aim of the programme is to ensure that the community can feel that this Baitulmal is a piece of common property.
“Therefore, we want them to be with us. Among them, we have brought together several agencies that can provide good services to the community,” he said.
Mohd Shibli said this when met by reporters at the programme, which was led by Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee.
Moreover, Mohd Shibli said that Baitulmal also involves non-Muslims so as to ensure that it is truly an organisation that can contribute to the well-being of the community.
He also expressed his appreciation to the local community who has continued to support and contribute to Baitulmal as a joint effort to help the needy.
Meanwhile, Dr Annuar praised the role of Baitulmal for continuously caring for the welfare of the asnaf (tithe recipients) community as well as houses of worship in Sibu.
“What’s most important is that Baitulmal has the necessary aids to deliver immediate help to those affected in an accident or disaster.
“I really appreciate Baitulmal because they have an efficient operation that acts fast in cases of emergency. They are the first body to offer help,” said the Nangka assemblyman.
