Telang Usan assemblyman Dato Dennis Ngau said community stalls have already opened since Wednesday (May 20), creating a lively atmosphere in the town.

“These community stalls are among the important components in enlivening the festival while also helping to boost the local economy.

“They offer a variety of food, beverages and local products to visitors,” he said in a Facebook post, as reported by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) yesterday (May 21).

Dennis, who is also the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) chairman, said the main highlight of the festival is the speedboat race competition.

The festival will feature participants from Brunei, Kuching and Sibu, with the race offering total prizes worth RM62,000, including trophies.

Apart from the race, the festival will also feature the Asen Food Competition and various traditional sports events.

Meanwhile, evening programmes include the Men’s and Women’s Nyivan Sin competition, Datun Julud competition and the Ratu Ibu Baram pageant.

To further enliven the festival atmosphere, performances by invited artistes will be held throughout the event nights.

Dennis said the festival plays an important role in showcasing the unique culture of Baram’s multi-ethnic communities and fostering stronger ties among local communities.

He encouraged the public to make their way to Long Lama this weekend to take part in the festival’s activities. — DayakDaily
