MIRI (Sept 9): The Batang Baram Delta dredging project which started this year is set to transform Miri’s economic landscape, said Miri Port Authority (MPA) chairman Dato Palu Paulus Palu Gumbang.

Palu said the project to deepen the Kuala Baram access channel would enhance Miri’s economic dynamism and align with the government’s vision of developing Sarawak into a progressive state.

“The 33-month project that is set to complete by early 2027 is also another service delivery enhancement or improvement for our customers, and with that I would like to thank the Sarawak government and all agencies, customers and all parties who are contributing to this important project,” he said in his remarks when officiating the MPA Customer and HSE Open Day at the MPA office in Kuala Baram on Monday.

On the event, he pointed out that it was an important occasion for MPA to open up to suggestions with the intention to enhance its service delivery.

“We will ensure for matters that are within our capability, we will help to assist and facilitate. This is because customers and HSE are the lifeblood of every organisation — without them, there would be no business organisation like that of Miri Port,” he said.

He emphasised that businesses must use every effort to attract and retain customers since they are the source of the income required for survival, expansion and growth.

“In doing so, the health and safety aspects of service delivery is also a cornerstone for business expansion and excellence,” he added.

The Customer and HSE Open Day was attended by 200 representatives from the port and shipping community, government agencies and MPA business associates.

Also present was MPA general manager Serawa Budol.
