Bau man arrested for having sex with underage girlfriend

KUCHING (March 10): Police have arrested a 21-year-old Bau man for having sexual intercourse with his underage girlfriend.

Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A Rahman said the suspect brought the 16-year-old girl to his family’s village house last November.

“The victim got to know the suspect via TikTok in November last year and after several days of being acquainted with each other, the suspect invited the victim to meet his parents.

“Upon arrival there was no one else in the house, so the suspect invited the victim to his bedroom to have a chat before proceeding to have sexual intercourse with her. After having intercourse, the suspect drove the victim back to her home. Following the incident, the victim severed ties with the suspect in December,” he said in a statement.

Mohd Haide said on Feb 3 at around 10.30am, the victim underwent treatment at Kota Sentosa clinic because she was vomiting and had a fever.

She was then referred to a specialist at Sarawak General Hospital.

“The victim was found to be three months pregnant,” he said, leading police to arrest the man.

The case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for physical sexual assault on a child.

The Section provides for a maximum imprisonment term of 20 years and caning.
