Body of Kuala Baram croc attack victim found

MIRI (Sept 23):  A 59-year-old man, feared to have been attacked by a crocodile in Kuala Baram after failing to return home from fishing yesterday, was found dead.

Lutong Fire and Rescue station chief Henry Jugah confirmed that the body of Minggu Ikum was found floating in the channel dug at an oil palm estate in Kuala Baram, about four kilometres from the Bomba control post (PKB), around 1.45pm today.

“The victim’s body was found floating by the search and rescue (SAR) team, with his left hand and part of his leg missing,” he said when contacted.

Henry said the body was subsequently handed over to the police for further action.

Yesterday, the victim’s daughter contacted the Lutong fire station for assistance after her father failed to returned home from a fishing trip.

She said her father went for fishing around 7.30am and was nowhere to be found when she checked on him later.

The family conducted a search in the area but was unsuccessful. They discovered a torn fishing net and marks which suggesting the victim may have been pulled into the water.
