KUCHING (Sept 1): The body of a man who was feared drowned after being swept away by a strong river current while crossing the Lubok Subong River in Lubok Antu was recovered this morning.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the body of Mohd Fandi Wong, 20, was found around 8.30am at the river’s downstream, about 500 metres from where he was last seen.

“The deceased body was brought to the jetty by a Bomba boat and then handed over to the police for further action.

“The police had requested for the deceased’s family members to identify the body, and it was confirmed that the recovered body was of the victim,” he said in a statement today.

A search and rescue operation was launched last Friday after the victim was reported to have been swept away by a strong river current while crossing the river with two friends after bathing there.

With the discovery of Wong’s body, the search and rescue operation ended at 9.30am.
