DARO (Feb 2): The body of a six-year-old girl feared to have fallen into Sungai Daro near Kampung Panchor was found on Monday afternoon.

The victim, Aqilla Nasuha Shamsol, was discovered floating in the river near Kampung Lemang Pek at about 4pm by members of the search and rescue (SAR) team.

Her body was subsequently brought ashore at the Kampung Panchor jetty before being transported by police vehicle to the hospital for confirmation of death.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said it received an emergency call regarding the incident at 2.28pm on Sunday (Feb 1), informing them that a child was believed to have fallen into the river.

Initial findings indicated that the girl had left the house through the back door without her parents’ knowledge.

Her father later found footprints believed to be hers leading towards the river at around 1pm and alerted Bomba.

The SAR operation resumed on Monday, involving 68 personnel from various agencies and villagers, supported by 12 boats, to search along stretches of Sungai Daro.

The operation was officially concluded at 4.45pm.
