BINTULU (March 3): The Bintulu Port Authority (BPA) has pledged RM150,000 as a strategic partner to support the Borneo International Kite Festival 2026 (BIKF 2026), scheduled for this July 22 to 26.
The mock cheque was handed over on Monday by BPA general manager Capt Zakhir Khan Yusop to Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) general manager Datu Muhamad Yakup Kari, representing the festival organiser.
In a statement, BDA said the partnership highlights both parties’ ongoing commitment to promoting tourism, culture, and community-based initiatives in Bintulu.
“BIKF 2026 is expected to attract strong participation from both local and international kite flyers, further enhancing Bintulu’s image as a global-standard tourism event destination,” said the authority.
The five-day festival, one of Sarawak’s signature tourism events, will once again be held at the Old Bintulu Airport site.
Visitors can look forward to giant and artistic kite displays, night kite performances, cultural showcases, and family-friendly fringe activities.
The festival is also projected to boost the local economy, benefiting hotels, food and beverage outlets, and small and medium enterprises through increased visitor arrivals.
“With continued support from strategic partners such as BPA, BIKF 2026 is poised to further cement Bintulu’s standing as a vibrant and sustainable industrial hub that embraces tourism and community engagement,” BDA added.
