Boy, 16, sent to reform school for raping 14-year-old girl in Kuching

Based on the facts of the case, the girl’s mother on Dec 18 last year noticed that her child’s abdomen appeared enlarged and brought her to a clinic for a medical examination, which confirmed she was 27 weeks pregnant.

KUCHING (March 4): The Magistrates’ Court here has ordered a 16-year-old boy to be placed at Henry Gurney School for three years for raping a 14-year-old girl.

Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali made the order after reviewing the teenager’s probation report from the Welfare Department.

The court also ordered the parents or guardians to visit the boy once every two months as required under Section 93(1)(d) of the Children Act 2001.

Additionally, the teenager was ordered to be placed under supervision for a period of one year, pursuant to Section 70 of the Children Act 2001, upon his release from the reform school.

The boy had previously pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and may include caning, upon conviction.

According to the charge, he committed the offence at a village in Petra Jaya here in June last year.

Based on the facts of the case, the girl’s mother on Dec 18 last year noticed that her child’s abdomen appeared enlarged and brought her to a clinic for a medical examination, which confirmed she was 27 weeks pregnant.

A second medical examination at Sarawak General Hospital later also confirmed the pregnancy, with an expected delivery date on March 16, 2026.

Following that, a police report was lodged that led to the boy’s arrest on Jan 9, 2026.

An investigation found both minors admitting to having had sexual intercourse with each other, with the girl aged 13 years and five months at the time of the incident.

Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Afiq Safly Nor Kazly appeared for the prosecution, while the boy was unrepresented.
