KUCHING (Aug 16): Malaysia Games (Sukma) XXI platinum sponsors CelcomDigi and U Mobile introduce 5G-Advanced (5G-A) to ensure smooth opening of the event tomorrow, said Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications (Telecommunications) Datuk Liwan Lagang.

“CelcomDigi and U Mobile are collaborating with their technology partner, ZTE Corporation, to demonstrate the power of 5G-A, which is being introduced in the country for the first time.

“We are excited because, for the first time, these two communication service operators have chosen Sarawak to introduce 5G-A, which has a speed of 30.8Gbps,” he said at a press conference held at the 5G-A Pavillion at Dataran Perayaan in Petra Jaya here this afternoon.

Liwan said the technology had been recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) as the ‘Fastest 5G-A Live Trial.’

“The strategic collaboration using 5G-A technology will enhance three areas of Sarawak Stadium, allowing the public to experience its advanced technological features.

“The UltraHD live broadcast of Sukma 2024 will, for the first time, be aired live on TVS and Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) for viewing nationwide,” he added.

As such, he assured sports fans eager to watch the opening ceremony, he said that the live broadcast would be streamed directly through the official media for the public to watch tomorrow.

They have also provided 360° cameras with Virtual Reality (VR) broadcasting powered by 5G-A, with 360° cameras installed in the sports arena to offer an Extended Reality (XR) experience through VR headsets.
