SIBU (Feb 2): The central zone contingent is targeting a medal haul of 19 gold, 20 silver and 30 bronze medals across all 11 sports to be contested at the fourth edition of the Sarawak Games (Suksar IV 2026).

This was revealed by the Suksar 2026 central zone’s chef-de-mission, Abang Mohamad Porkan Abang Budiman, at a ceremony to hand over flags and jerseys to the athletes at Sibu Indoor Stadium on Monday.

Abang Mohamad, who is also Sibu Resident, said the central zone contingent comprising Sibu, Mukah and Kapit Division is sending 205 athletes.

They will compete in all 11 sports contested, namely weightlifting, cycling, netball, basketball, karate, ping ping, pétanque, sepak takraw, softball, taekwondo and boxing.

The selection process was carried out by the 11 respective sports associations.

“Centralised training began on January 5 to ensure that the athletes’ readiness is at an optimal level in terms of physical, mental and tactical preparation,” Abang Mohamad said.

The contingent will depart for Suksar on Tuesday.

Suksar IV, which will be held in Sri Aman, Betong and Lubok Antu from Feb 5 to 8, is aimed at strengthening unity among Sarawak’s youth, uncovering new sporting talents and producing high-performance athletes capable of bringing glory to the state at higher levels.

“Let every match be a platform to prove your capabilities while projecting a positive image of the central zone contingent,” the Sibu Resident told the squad.

Among those present were deputy chef-de-mission Christopher Ranggau Unting who is also Sibu Deputy Resident and assistant chef-de-mission Elvis Didit who is also Kapit Resident.
