MIRI: A Miri-based charity has appealed for public assistance to trace the family of a man whose body has remained unclaimed at Miri Hospital’s mortuary since his death on September 25.

The Miri City Caring Society (Pertubuhan Penyayang Bandaraya Miri) said efforts by hospital and police authorities to locate the man’s relatives in Miri and Sibu had so far been unsuccessful.

The deceased, identified as Sii Tuong Hung, was admitted to Miri Hospital’s Emergency Department on September 18 after being found suffering from severe breathing difficulties near a food court here.

Hospital records show that he was brought in by ambulance and treated in the emergency department’s Red Zone. His identity was unclear during the initial treatment, prompting the hospital to lodge a police report to establish his identity.

He subsequently died at Miri Hospital on September 25. According to the society, no family member or next of kin had come forward to claim his body or assist with funeral arrangements as of yesterday (Oct 12).

His last known registered address was in Tanjung Kunyit, Sibu, while his last known correspondence address was in Krokop, Miri.

The society said legal consent and authorisation from the next of kin were required for the release of the remains and the necessary funeral arrangements.

It is now urging relatives, acquaintances or anyone with information about the deceased or his family to come forward to help ensure he receives a proper and dignified burial.

Those who can assist are asked to contact Philip Kiew of the Miri City Caring Society at 019-884 7726 or contact Miri Hospital directly.

The society hopes the public appeal will help establish contact with the deceased’s family and allow the necessary arrangements to proceed.
