KUCHING: Sarawak’s projected RM246 million budget surplus for 2027 reflects the state government’s prudent financial management while supporting its ambition to become a developed state by 2030, says Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang.
He said the State Budget 2027, with projected revenue of RM15.091 billion against proposed expenditure of RM14.845 billion, demonstrated the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government’s commitment to maintaining financial discipline while investing in the state’s future.
“I warmly welcome the tabling of the State Budget 2027 today. With projected revenue of RM15.091 billion against proposed expenditure of RM14.845 billion, the Budget is expected to record a surplus of RM246 million, reflecting the GPS Government’s prudent and disciplined financial management,” he told Sarawak Tribune when contacted on the tabling of the state budget today (Oct 12).
Gira said the budget went beyond addressing immediate needs, supporting Sarawak’s ambition to achieve developed-state status by 2030 and sustain its progress in line with the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).
He stressed that effective implementation would be crucial to ensuring the benefits of Sarawak’s economic growth reached rural communities, including his constituency of Tamin.
“For rural constituencies like Tamin, effective implementation will be essential to ensure that Sarawak’s prosperity translates into better infrastructure, improved public services and greater opportunities for our people,” he said.
Gira expressed support for the budget, describing it as a responsible and people-centred approach that would strengthen Sarawak’s resilience while investing in its long-term development.
