MIRI: A powerful storm that swept through the city on Monday afternoon caused an uprooted tree and flash flooding in several areas, creating hazardous conditions for motorists.

The storm, which began around 1.30 pm and lasted until 2.45 pm, uprooted a tree that fell onto a moving car near Taman Awam.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Flash flooding also occurred along the coastal road, particularly near Kampung Terahad.

The floodwaters made it difficult for smaller vehicles to navigate the area safely.

Today (Sept 23), the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) had issued a warning advising of heavy rains and thunderstorms in Sarawak.

The advisory, which is in effect until 4 pm, highlighted Miri (Subis, Miri, and Marudi) and Limbang as the affected areas.

Motorists and residents in these areas are urged to exercise caution while traveling due to the ongoing adverse weather conditions.
