Caught in disguise: The stolen Honda NF110 and the 43-year-old suspect arrested in Marudi after police recovered the bike despite attempts to alter its look.By DayakDaily Team
KUCHING, Feb 2: A thief tried to pull a fast one by giving a stolen motorcycle a new look, changing its colour and swapping its rims, but his disguise couldn’t fool the police.
Miri District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the case began on Jan 27, when a Honda NF110 motorcycle parked in front of a residential area near a national secondary school in Miri went missing.
“Following intelligence, our team conducted a raid at a house in Marudi on Feb 1 and arrested a 43-year-old local man believed to be behind the theft,” he said in a statement today.
The suspect had hoped that repainting the bike and altering its rims would help him avoid detection. But the plan failed, and police successfully recovered the stolen motorcycle.
Further checks revealed the man had a criminal record involving theft, criminal intimidation, and drug abuse. A preliminary urine test also showed he was positive for methamphetamine.
The suspect has been remanded until Feb 4, 2026, for further investigations under Section 379A of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of one to seven years and may also include a fine.
Farhan urged the public to stay alert and continue assisting police by reporting suspicious activities.
