KUCHING: The Chinese New Year (CNY) Carnival serves as more than just a platform for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to conduct business; it is a catalyst for community cohesion.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said such carnivals not only help SMEs expand their revenue streams but also facilitate inter-community engagement.

“It offers an avenue for various business owners to showcase their products, while providing entertainment such as lion dance performances and singing.”

Speaking at the official launch of the CNY Carnival at Neon Trend Market here on Monday (Jan 29), he noted, “This event attracts visitors from diverse ethnic backgrounds—Chinese, Malay, or Iban—who come together to revel in the festivities.”

“I also extend my best wishes for everyone’s health. We must prioritise good health above all else, as it forms the foundation of prosperity,” he added.

Meanwhile, Batu Kitang assemblyman Datuk Lo Khere Chiang pointed out the carnival’s role in generating employment opportunities within his constituency.

“In addition to fostering camaraderie among people of different races, the carnival allows us to savour the unique culinary offerings of Sarawak.

“The vibrant atmosphere here reflects the unity and resilience of our community, underscoring our stable economic growth and competitive edge.”
