SIBU, 11 Oct: Cooperation between schools, teachers, parents, alumni and the community is important in efforts to improve quality education as well as provide better learning environment for future generations.
Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said education is a shared responsibility and should not be left to teachers or school authorities alone.
According to him, changes in the education system as current developments require teachers to spend more time and energy adapting teaching methods, curriculum and learning materials according to students' needs.
"In this regard, teachers need to be given understanding and support from schools, parents and communities to help them cope with changes in the educational environment", he said.
He said this through the text of a speech read by Press Secretary Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Ross Sia Wan Teng at the 110th Anniversary Dinner of Chung Hua High School here last night.
The council also celebrated the appointment of Chung Hua Alumni Association Committee Member for its 32nd term.
Meanwhile, Tiong explained that efforts to improve the quality of education should not only focus on academic achievement, but also include the formation of awareness, responsibility and freedom of thought among students.
"Schools and families must work together to guide younger generations to be able to judge information well, distinguish right from wrong, respect others and be accountable for their own decisions", he said.
He also hoped that Chung Hua Alumni Association can play a more active role in supporting the development of the school through contributions of experience, knowledge and resources to assist student development.
According to him, the success of Chung Hua High School over 110 years demonstrates the importance of a continuing commitment by various parties in ensuring that education continues to benefit future generations.
In support of the development of education in the school, he also announced an allocation of RM50,000.-TVS
