SIBU (Dec 14): Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan branch chairman Councillor Kevin Lau commended local community leaders for their vital role in flood relief and development during the ‘1212 Rajang River Night Cruise’ here on Friday.
He specifically praised the Kapitan and Penghulu for their active cooperation during recent floods, highlighting their efforts in assisting affected residents to apply for financial aid and other supplies from the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) and the Welfare Department, as well as personally delivering the assistance to them.
He made these remarks at the event, jointly organised by the village development and security committees (JKKKs) of Bukit Igu, Sungai Sadit Kiri, Sungai Sadit Kanan, Jalan Quarry, Bandar Sibu, and Sungai Dasin Ensurai.
Kevin also said the recent infrastructure achievements in the Bawang Assan area including road upgrading works, drainage improvements, and street-lighting were the direct result of strong support and cooperation between his team and the JKKKs.
“These are not the efforts of any single individual.
“Serving as an important bridge between the government and the people, these leaders have maintained close collaboration with relevant agencies to jointly promote local development,” he said.
On the night cruise, Kevin said it successfully brought together community leaders and committee members from six areas in a warm atmosphere, strengthening mutual ties and showcasing the unity of grassroots organisations.
He expressed his satisfaction at their continued mutual support in managing community affairs, noting that such spirit must be upheld long-term to strengthen public trust.
Kevin reaffirmed his team’s focus on addressing local issues, pledging to continue working hand-in-hand with all JKKKs to build a safer, more progressive future for Bawang Assan.
