Conference set to discuss growing demand for water

KUCHING: The forthcoming Borneo International Water and Wastewater Exhibition & Conference (BIWWEC) 2024 is set to  tackle pressing challenges in water and wastewater management.

According to the Sarawak Water Supply and Water Grid Master Plan unveiled in May 2024, water demand in Sarawak is projected to surge to 4,460 million litres per day (MLD) by 2030, up from the current 2,060 MLD.

BIWWEC 2024 aims to address this growing demand by fostering discussions on sustainable solutions to prepare Sarawak for future challenges.

Anticipating around 1,000 delegates, the conference will serve as a vital platform for knowledge exchange and partnership formation within the water management sector.

In a statement on Wednesday it said sessions will also include “Women as Water Leaders – The Unseen Currents,” which will examine the significant yet frequently unrecognised contributions of women in water leadership and management.

“Another key session, “Young Water Professionals: Leading the Charge for a Sustainable Future,” will spotlight the innovative ideas and fervour of young professionals driving sustainable water management forward,” it added.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, is scheduled to deliver the keynote address and officiate the event on Oct 23.
