Construction supervisor claims trial to raping 15-year-old girl at Lundu beach

KUCHING (March 17): A supervisor of a construction company has claimed trial in the Sessions Court here to raping a 15-year-old girl in Lundu.

The 31-year-old man pleaded not guilty before Judge Iris Awen Jon to the charge under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum 20-year jail term and caning upon conviction.

Defence counsel Francis Teron applied for bail on behalf of the accused but deputy public prosecutor Chuah Kai Sheng opposed the application on the grounds that the offence committed is considered serious.

Iris denied bail and ordered the accused to be further remanded pending pre-trial case management on April 15.

According to the charge, the accused allegedly committed the offence in a pickup truck at a beach in Lundu around 7pm on March 4 last year.
