KUCHING (Aug 11): The younger generation needs to be nurtured and exposed to English, Science and Mathematics at a young age, said Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn.

The Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister said these subjects are important elements in ensuring they are not left behind in the pursuit of education and are able to improve their quality of life later on.

Speaking at the launch of the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) Lundu Branch new building in Lundu on Saturday, he said initiatives to nurture these subjects can be organised through various activities by DBNA which can also make use of the new building for such purposes.

“At the same time, we want to prepare our younger generation in line with the call by our Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to have Sarawakian children be able to enjoy free (tertiary) education by 2026,” he said, according to a report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas).

Meanwhile, Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang said several improvements were made to the building to provide a comfortable environment during the organisation of activities.

Also present were DBNA president Datu Ik Pahon Joyik, Political Secretaries to the Premier Datu Peter Nyomek Nyeap, Paul Nyigor, Niponi Undek and Damien Rijek, Bidayuh Temenggong Kuching Division Atok Derop and Pemanca Allen Manium Enggang.
