KUCHING (Dec 15): A Rahmah Madani Sales organised by the Democratic Action Party (DAP) Stampin Parliamentary Centre drew a strong crowd yesterday, with residents purchasing essential goods at significant discounts.

Held at the Sentosa Sports Centre, the event offered items at prices 10 per cent to 30 per cent lower than regular retailers.

“The enthusiastic response reflects the real and pressing need for initiatives that help our people cope with the rising cost of living,” said Michael Kong, a special assistant to Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, in a statement.

He explained that the programme was subsidised by the federal government through the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living.

The operator was registered under the Rahmah Basic Assistance (Sara) programme, allowing eligible individuals to utilise their Sara credit balance to buy daily necessities.

“This small but important measure ensures that government assistance is accessible and practical for those who need it most,” he said.

Kong added that his team has worked closely with the ministry over the years to bring the sales to various parts of the Stampin constituency, making the affordable shopping opportunities convenient for many families.

He confirmed that more of such events are planned in the coming months, with details to be announced periodically.

“Our goal is to make these initiatives a regular feature in our community, ensuring that help continues to reach the people where it truly matters,” Kong said.
