KUCHING (Feb 2): The Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) achieved a proud milestone after being awarded the Asean Clean Tourist City Award under the Asean Tourism Standards 2026-2028 category.

DBKU in a Facebook post said this was its first recognition at the Asean level, and the prestigious award was conferred after it successfully fulfilled all the criteria stipulated, as well as receiving official endorsement from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

“The award presentation ceremony was held on Jan 30 in Cebu, the Philippines in conjunction with the Asean Tourism Forum 2026,” it said, adding the award was received by DBKU deputy director (community services) Rudzaimeir Malek and public relations division head Norhayati Bidin.

It said the achievement reflected its continued commitment to ensuring Kuching North remains a clean, safe, sustainable and liveable tourist city in line with its aspirations towards international-standard urban development.

On the national level front, DBKU also recorded success by winning the Asean Clean Tourist City Standard twice consecutively in the 2022-2024 and 2024-2026 cycles.

“These continuous achievements serve as a catalyst for DBKU’s efforts to strengthen urban governance while enhancing the quality of a clean, safe and sustainable urban environment, for the well-being of the community and to deliver an international-level tourism experience,” it said.

DBKU also extended its highest appreciation and gratitude to residents of Kuching City for their commitment, discipline and continued cooperation in sharing collective responsibility, which have contributed towards realising the aspiration of making Kuching City one of the cleanest tourist cities in the ASEAN region.
