KUCHING: A 36-year-old man was sentenced to 12 months in prison and fined RM5,000 by the Kuching Magistrate’s Court today (Sept 9) for damaging property and making threats.

Jilan Seliboh pleaded guilty to two charges: mischief and criminal intimidation.

According to the first charge, Jilan damaged 14 window panes and three cabinets at a 77-year-old man’s home in Kampung Maang, Mile 24, on Aug 31. The damage amounted to RM10,000.

For the second charge, Jilan admitted to threatening to harm a 33-year-old woman, the complainant’s sibling. He reportedly said, “lagi ku pantap nuan ngenak duku, pecah kepala nuan kasak ku lagi” in Iban, which translates to “I will stab you until you die.”

Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan sentenced Jilan to 12 months in prison for the mischief charge and fined him RM5,000 or an additional 10 months in jail for the criminal intimidation charge.

The complainant had discovered her father’s house had been broken into and damaged. She had been informed by her sibling that Jilan intended to visit the house to collect a debt.

The police arrested Jilan on Sept 3 at Taman Desa Ilmu, Kota Samarahan.

Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin prosecuted the case, while Jilan was unrepresented.
