SIBU (Oct 8): The growing pupil population of SK Kampung Bahagia Jaya in Teku here has necessitated the construction of an additional building, said Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee.

The Education, Innovation and Talent Development Deputy Minister said the new building will house six classes.

“Previously, Kampung Bahagia Jaya was just a small village, but has grown rapidly due to the development in the area.

“As the number of villagers in Kampung Bahagia Jaya has increased, it means more children going to SK Kampung Bahagia Jaya. That is why the school needs additional building to house more classes for the pupils.”

The Nangka assemblyman told this to reporters when met at the project site yesterday.

He noted that the school currently has more than 600 pupils.

He said the additional building is being built at the site of the former toilet, which had been knocked down to pave way for the project.

“I was told the project is progressing smoothly and there is no logistics problem and building materials are delivered on a timely manner. As for existing buildings in the school, they are still safe for use.

“As we all know, many areas in Sibu sit on peat soil. The school buildings are safe and there is no issue,” he said.
