KUCHING (Oct 28): The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has appointed Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip as its 11th Director-General effective today, succeeding Muhammad Helmi Abdullah who retired on Aug 4.
Mohd Hisham, 55, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematical Sciences from Universiti Malaya along with a Master’s and Doctorate in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Missouri, the United States of America.
“He began his career with MetMalaysia on March 4, 1994. With 30 years of service, he has gained broad experience across key areas of meteorology, including weather forecasting, training, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), instrumentation and quality management.
“Mohd Hisham’s extensive expertise is further reflected in his contributions to various technical committees and expert working groups – both nationally and internationally – with a focus on disaster management, weather and flood forecasting, climate change and research,” MetMalaysia said in a statement today.
It said his appointment underscores the government’s dedication to enhancing the department’s role as a leading agency in meteorology, climate and geophysics both domestically and on the world stage.
