KUCHING, Dec 15: A man escaped to safety after his car caught fire following a self-inflicted accident at Kanowit, Sibu here last night.
According to a Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) report, it said it received an emergency call at 8.06pm reporting a car fire involving a Hyundai Atos near the Kanowit junction.
A fire engine from the Sibu Jaya Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene, located about 22 kilometres away, and arrived at 8.29pm. By the time firefighters reached the location, the victim, an adult male, had already managed to exit the vehicle and was taken to Kanowit Hospital by an ambulance from the Ministry of Health.
The the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames, completely destroying it.
Firefighters carried out extinguishing operations using water supplied from the fire engine pump. The blaze was brought under control at 8.50pm and fully extinguished shortly after.
The operation ended at 8.53pm, after which the firefighters returned to the station.– DayakDaily
