KUCHING (Oct 11): The Magistrates’ Court here today sentenced a 40-year-old man to seven months in jail for amphetamine and methamphetamine abuse in July.
Saiful Bohari Bolkipli pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan, who ordered he undergo two years of supervision by the authorities, and for the jail sentence to take effect from today.
Saiful was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 15(1) of the same Act.
The Section carries a jail sentence of up to two years, or a fine not exceeding RM5,000, and immediate supervision for a period not exceeding three years.
He committed the offence at the Padawan District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) around 12.30pm on July 4 this year.
Saiful’s urine test was positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine drugs, which are listed in the First Schedule of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
ASP Mohd Adzmei Ahmad handled the prosecution while Saiful was unrepresented by legal counsel.
