KUCHING: Two accomplices were each sentenced to two months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court here today for stealing four lorry batteries and a water pump machine owned by a 32-year-old man.
Adril Naffiz Mustapha, 30, and Mohammed Fitri Hajeli, 35, both pleaded guilty to a charge read before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.
According to the charge, they were jointly charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 34 of the same code, which could result in an imprisonment of up to 10 years and a fine or whipping, upon conviction.
They committed the offence at a house on Jalan Datuk Stephen Yong, Batu Kawa, at around 8.27 am on November 26, 2023.
According to the facts of the case, during the incident, the complainant was informed by his employee of missing items in front of his house.
After reviewing the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage from his neighbor’s property, two unidentified men were seen entering his property using a Perodua Kenari car.
An inspection by the complainant revealed that four lorry batteries, a water pressure pump, and various spanner tools were missing. The estimated loss sustained was around RM2,500.
The complainant filed a police report for further action, leading to the arrest of both accused on January 20.
The investigation revealed that both accused admitted to stealing the complainant’s belongings and selling them to a scrap metal shop for RM235.
The prosecution was conducted by prosecuting officer Inspector Ammarsoffi Yusoff while the accused were not represented by a counsel.
