KUCHING, Jan 24: The Magistrate’s Court here today ordered six men and two women to be placed on peace bonds for six months for trespassing on another person’s land while planting sugarcane.

Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan instructed the eight individuals, aged between 25 and 69, who are members of an association in the area, to each provide a RM500 bond (non-deposit) with one surety.

The accused were identified as Wira Majni, Yunus Buntok, Edward Kuna, Was Buang, Wan Seman Wan Sebeli, Kamal Anwar, Norlide Buntok, and Siti Aisah Abdullah.

All of them pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 67 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

According to the case facts, on October 7, 2023, the complainant who is the son of the landowner, discovered that the association had expanded its sugarcane plantation on his father’s 34-acre land in Jalan FAC Matang here, without the complainant’s knowledge.

Previously, the complainant had attempted to discuss the matter with the association’s leader, Wira, but his efforts were disregarded. Additionally, the complainant’s land had reportedly been encroached upon by the association since November 2022.

Furthermore, the complainant had sought confirmation from the Land and Survey Office, verifying that the land belonged to his father and his business partner.

As a result, the complainant filed a police report for further action, leading to the arrest of all accused on December 7, 2023, at the specified land lot.

Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin handled the prosecution, while none of the accused were represented by legal counsel. — DayakDaily
