KUCHING, Apr 27: The European Union (EU) is keen to position Sarawak as a strategic partner to strengthen future cooperation in green energy, investment, and human capital development.

In a TVS report, EU Ambassador to Malaysia, Rafael Daerr, commended Sarawak’s forward-looking approach, which aligns with the EU’s priorities, particularly in energy transition and sustainable development.

“Sarawak plays a vital role in various aspects with its forward-looking approach towards issues which align with ours, whether it be green transition, increasing green energy production, or cooperation as partners that ultimately strengthens both sides and enhances mutual resilience,” he said following a courtesy call to Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Satria Pertiwi Complex here today.

He said that amid a challenging geoeconomic landscape, the EU needs strategic partners capable of strengthening economic resilience on both sides.

At the same time, Daerr said that Malaysia is a key global partner for the EU in efforts to achieve shared prosperity and ensure regional peace and stability.

“The purpose of my visit is to support and coordinate the various engagements and activities carried out by EU member states and their companies in Sarawak and with Sarawak.

“You may have seen many of my colleagues visiting recently, such as the French Ambassador to Malaysia, who was here two weeks ago, and the Italian Ambassador to Malaysia a few weeks earlier.

“Soon, you will see other ambassadors such as those from Germany, Hungary, and the Netherlands,” he said. — DayakDaily
