MIRI (Aug 31): A 31-year-old man and his six-year-old daughter were killed, while his wife severely injured in a traffic accident involving a pickup truck and a lorry near Rh Maxwell at Jln Miri-Bintulu around 6.12pm yesterday (Aug 30).
District police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said that the man was killed on the spot while the daughter succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment at Miri Hospital early this morning (Aug 31) at 3.39am.
“Police investigation found that the lorry coming from Miri heading towards Bintulu, was making a U-turn before colliding with a Toyota Hilux (pickup truck) that was coming from Batu Niah,” he said in a statement today.
The collision, he said, had caused severe damage to the Toyota Hilux, while the lorry was damaged only on the front part.
Alexson said that the driver of the pickup truck was killed on the spot and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from Miri Hospital.
“The victim’s daughter, on the other hand, was pronounced dead at 3.39am today while receiving treatment at Miri Hospital,” he said, adding that the lorry driver only sustained light injuries.
Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
