Fire breaks out at Kidurong landfill, roughly one acre affected

BINTULU (Sept 8): Firefighters today battled to contain a blaze at the Kidurong landfill here.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in a statement said the fire involved an area of about one acre.

“We rushed firefighters to the scene following a report received at 1.31pm. Initial firefighting efforts were carried out by Trienekens’ team using a portable pump and multiple hose lines to combat the flames from both the upper and lower sections of the site,” it said.

It said addition support from Bomba arrived at 2.25pm, while Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) mobilised a team of 11 personnel and a water tanker to assist in the firefighting efforts.

As of 7pm, efforts to fully extinguish the fire were ongoing.
