Fire breaks out at solar hybrid station

MARUDI: A fire broke out at a solar hybrid station in remote Long Atip, here, today (Sept 15), involving a room housing about 480 batteries and inverter equipment.

The fire was reported at about 8.50 am and was brought under control by workers from Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) before the arrival of volunteer firefighters.

SEB personnel used nine ABC dry powder extinguishers and five carbon dioxide extinguishers to contain and extinguish the blaze.

The Volunteer Fire Brigade team from Long Bedian arrived at about 11 am and confirmed that the fire had been extinguished. Firefighters then conducted checks and monitored the area to ensure there were no remaining sources of fire.

The incident posed an additional logistical challenge because the station is located in a remote area, with the Marudi Fire and Rescue Department team facing a journey of about four hours via logging roads to reach the site.

No casualties or injuries were reported.

The Marudi Fire and Rescue Department said further action would be taken by its operational team upon arrival at the station.

The cause of the fire and the extent of damage to the solar hybrid station had not been established in the initial report.
