Fire destroys upper floor of Sibu semi-D house

SIBU: The upper floor of a two-storey semi-detached house was completely destroyed in a fire at a residential area.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said it received an emergency call regarding the incident at 12.11pm this afternoon.

Following the alert, firefighters from the Sungai Merah Fire Station were dispatched to the scene, located about five kilometres away.

“Upon arrival at 12.17pm, the team found that the fire was raging on the top floor of a permanent two-storey semi-detached house at Lorong Gelama 4A.

“The upper level of the structure was destroyed by the flames, while the ground floor sustained water damage as a result of the firefighting operation,” it said.

The fire also affected the roof of an adjacent semi-detached unit, causing moderate damage to that structure. No casualties or injuries were reported during the incident.

The operation was brought under control at 1.03pm and officially concluded at 2.10pm after firefighters completed overhauling works to ensure no remaining hot spots were present.
