Fire guts house of Para Sukma weightlifter’s family

MIRI (Sept 10): A house belonging to the family of Para Sukma athlete Christal Vencent Bonny was razed to the ground after a fire broke out Tuesday morning.

Lutong fire station chief Henry Jugah said they received a distress call at 8.53am and rushed a team to the house at Tudan Desaras Block 6.

“The house was occupied by four residents but no was at home at the time of the fire. The father and daughter were at work, while the mother was accompanying another child to school,” he said in a statement.

Henry said that Christal and a younger brother are both in Kuching – the former preparing for the Para Sukma weightlifting event, and the latter representing the Special Education Integration Programme (PPKI) of SK Lutong.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and losses have yet to be ascertained, he added.

The firefighting operation concluded around 11.40am.
