BINTULU (Oct 13): A block of workers’ quarters at an oil palm plantation in Jelatong here was destroyed in a fire today.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in a statement confirmed the fire completely destroyed the structure, which comprised five rooms.

“A team from the Bintulu fire station headed to the scene via the Bintulu-Bakun road immediately after receiving the emergency call on the fire at 10.34am,” it said.

It was learnt the firefighters are currently en route to the scene to extinguish the fire.

As of press time, there were no reports of casualties as all the occupants managed to escape safely.

Further updates on the fire would be provided as information becomes available.

The plantation is located approximately 300 kilometres from Bintulu town.
