SIBU (Sept 12): A fire damaged around 80 per cent of a shoplot at Jalan Lim Ah Din in Julau last night.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said a report on the fire was received around 7.50pm.
A total of 15 firefighters from the Bintangor fire station were sent to the scene located 39km away.
“On arrival, it was found there was a fire at one shoplot, which housed a coffee shop and a retail store,” Bomba said in a statement.
Firefighters used water sourced from a nearby fire hydrant to prevent the fire from spreading to the adjacent shoplots.
“The fire is estimated to have destroyed 80 per cent of the ground floor and the upper floor of the affected shoplot,” added Bomba.
The department said the fire was extinguished using defensive and offensive methods.
Bomba ended its operation at 10.40pm.
The cause of the fire and value of damages have yet to be ascertained.
Other agencies involved in the operation were the police, Sesco, Civil Defence Force, and People’s Volunteer Corps.
