Firefighters rescue toddler locked inside vehicle at home

MIRI (Feb 2): Firefighters were summoned to a house at Taman Harmoni Sri Pertiwi in Kuala Baram here Monday to rescue a toddler locked inside a vehicle.

Lutong fire station chief Henry Jugah said acting on a call at 2.48pm from the toddler’s grandmother, a team was despatched to the location to commence a rescue operation.

“According to the grandmother, she was busy cleaning the car porch and did not realise the child, aged three years and three months, had gotten herself locked inside the family’s vehicle.

“With both of the child’s parents at work and the grandmother’s mobile phone also inside the vehicle, the grandmother had to borrow a neighbour’s phone to call for help,” he said in a statement.

According to Henry, the toddler was trapped for about an hour before being safely rescued.

He reminded parents and caregivers to always monitor young children even when preoccupied with chores at home to prevent unwanted incidents.
