Police conduct a body search on the suspect.
MUKAH (March 17): Police arrested a 38-year-old man for alleged drug abuse and drug possession at the staircase of a commercial building along Jalan Setiaraja here at around 8.30pm on Monday.
Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the suspect, a fisherman, was detained by a team from the district police’s Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division following information received.
“During a body search, police discovered a transparent straw tube containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine, commonly known as syabu, weighing approximately 0.46g,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
Muhamad Rizal said the suspect and the seized items were taken to the Mukah District Police Headquarters for further investigation.
“A urine screening later tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine,” he added.
He said the suspect, who has two previous records related to drug related offences, has been remanded for three days until March 19 to assist investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act.
